Carmella Ramey
ADVERTISING/BUSINESS MANAGER

Carmella was born and raised in Rochester, New York in 1951.  She went to School #25; until they realized she had a hearing loss, and then they transferred her to School #31, which had a program for hearing-impaired students.

Carmella attended East High School, where she graduated in 1970. In September 1970, She attended NTID where she was first exposed to the Deaf world. She quotes, "It was the best years of my school life.  I will always cherish those memories." Carmella graduated from NTID in May 1972 with an Associates Degree in Business Office Practice.

She worked for the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rochester for 24 years - she held various positions within the company.  One of her positions was when the employees of BC/BS voted her to be a Correspondence Secretary for the Gateway Club.  She held this position for 2 years. She also conducted sign language classes for fellow employees.  

Carmella was active in volunteering for many organizations for the Deaf in Rochester for a long time.

In Advertising, Carmella is responsible for recruiting, securing, and maintaining advertisers to keep Deaf Rochester News alive with funding. She is also in charge of Deaf Rochester News' finances; sharing the reports with the staff and Board of Directors; reimbursing people for expenses; taking care of the salaries and stipends.

Carmella is married to a wonderful man, Peyton, and they have a 17-year-old son, David.

She also runs a business, Carmella’s Office Solutions - "All keyed up so you don't have to be." Her business is providing typing and secretarial services for individuals and/or businesses on a freelance basis.
